About Rosy

Photographer, artist and retired graphic designer

Rosy Burke is a past winner of BBC Countryfile Photo Competition Judges Prize 2005. Her winning photo, 'Fun in the Waves', (below), was especially selected by Jo Brand, Chris Packham and John Craven. Then it was a young Adam Henson who arrived with a camera crew to film the presentation of her award to be featured in the Calendar 2006. John Craven presented her with the trophy for the Judges Prize 2005 at The Mailbox, Birmingham. She was also a Long Listing Judge of the Competition for nine years and features in the 2021 hardback book on the subject.

She has been taking pictures of this part of the Isle of Wight coast since a young girl when she learned to swim at Compton Bay and her father bought her a Box Brownie Camera to celebrate.

Childhood holidays in Brook and two sisters living locally meant that she had many thousands of pictures in her Photo Library to research for the book. "The work was a joy in the dullness of lockdown", she said, feeling trapped at home in her studio.

Rosy was also a prize winning graphic designer and business woman being awarded the first Best Small Business in Banbury Award in 1996. She worked as a freelance designer for 40 years for large and small companies from her studio. She has also photographed many large and small scale projects some of which can be seen on her Youtube Channel: rosydesign1

Rosy is never happier than when beachcombing, drawing and painting or with a camera
